If you’re a fan of comics from the 90’s, you’ll be pleased to hear some surprising titles just got new action figures as part of Shocker Toys’ Indie Spotlight collection. All the toys in the line have a bonus Isz figure from The Maxx to use as target practice. A throwback to the era when MTV still played music and showed cutting-edge alternative animation like Liquid Television instead of reality show douche-bags on a continuous loop.
I was actually pretty excited to see they had a figure for Scud the Disposable …
Michael Ian Black- Very Famous
Comedy Central Records
6/10
Watch out kids, there’s a new comedy CD from Michael Ian Black, or as I like to call him- The Notorious MIB. You may remember him from such shows as The State, VH1′s I Love The…, or as the other Michael from Stella. But even if you don’t, he’d like to assure you all he is Very Famous. Even his child’s cancer-patient hat and vacant expression staring from the CD cover fill you with the vague feeling that you once may have bought …
The hit pay-what-you-like indie game phenomenon is back! After already raising over a million dollars for charity through the last two bundles, this year’s passed the $500K in donations mark in less than a day! Humble Bundle is blind to social status, probation status, or platform. Rich, poor, Mac, and PC alike, all are welcome. But no DRM, and no Mexicans.
The Bundle helps give to needy causes in two ways; it brings awesome games to those deprived of quality indie-tastic entertainment, most likely small children and unemployed young men who …
Racket was excited when we got a chance to interview the creator and cast of the hit cartoon show Adventure Time. Last time we chatted with Pendelton Ward, the bushy bearded mastermind behind the series, a butt bumpin’ dance party broke out. This time we were able to sit down and have him share his hopes, dreams, and inspirations.
Cartoon Network willingness to embrace surreal quirky fun and weirdness has continued to be a winning formula to draw talent. Ward has been catapulted into the limelight to join the network’s roster …
It’s that time again! Cram into that body suit, buff up on your trivia, and get yourself down to San Diego for the 2011 Comic-Con where the fabulous and not so fabulous come to gawk, gather, and geek out. This year we decided to make Comic-Con is our awkward, slightly tubby, overzealous muse by preparing a collection of our famous haikus about all our favorite quintesssinaly Comic-Con things in honor of nerds everywhere.
The Newport Beach Film Festival kicks off tonight to usher in a week of shorts, cinema, and swanky parties. The Opening Night Gala film East Fifth Bliss stars Michael C. Hall from Showtime’s hit TV show Dexter, who plays a man who finds himself juggling having his overbearing widowed father as a roommate and trying to keep from getting burned by an awkward but fiery new relationship with a sexy younger woman.
The festival runs from April 28 to May 5 and will be closing out with A Beginner’s Guide to …
Set your watches to Adventure Time! Lines were out the door for Gallery Nucleus’ Adventure Time art opening celebrating the show’s one year anniversary. From its humble beginnings as a whimsical short about distraught rainacorns, punching wizards, riding penguins, and doing it to the max, Adventure Time made its way to Cartoon Network and blossomed into the full blown twisted candy-coated fever dream the show is today.
The event featured special appearances by voices from the show and guest artists, and signings by the show’s creator Pendelton Ward himself. Racket was …

Hanna
Focus Features
8/10
Hanna- Girl assassin and government experiment in babysitting gone wrong. She was raised by an ex-secret agent in a shroud of mystery and frozen evergreens and taught to fight like a hungry wolf. This wild child is no granola girl. A diet of Grimm stories and caribou jerky has prepared her to be a cold blooded killer, or so her father hopes. When it’s time to finally leave home her precision planned sting operation of a sweet sixteen hits a snag.
Turns out the best villains are the silent steel belted types. In this film by Quentin Dupieux an isolated desert off-ramp is gripped with terror when a sentient homicidal car tire with an ominous lust for blood and smokin’ babes rolls into town. You would think a rogue killer tire would run people over or something, but you would be wrong, it blows people’s heads up with its telepathic powers. Why? Because it’s awesome.
Surprisingly artfully shot and self-aware, this movie is all style and sass. Rubber is a hilarious homage …

Feb 14th is Valentine’s Day, or as it’s known by sexual meteorologists, “The Hottest Day of the Year”. For those with a bold spirit it can be the perfect opportunity to swoop in and win over the heart and pants of that sexy special someone with only marginal credit card debt and a dash of charm. Sure, some jaded souls may say Valentine’s is just a holiday made up by corporate America to sell cards, but for those who want to avoid the wrath of …
We here at Racket love two things- Food and a reason to drink. Thanksgiving Day is about both these things. It’s the one time of year that being seen gnawing on a giant turkey leg and drunkenly hitting on your cousin is acceptable even in non-jousting related settings. It’s a glorious celebration of all things fat and sassy. Sure, belts might be a little tighter this round, but we are here to show that hard times and invasive new TSA regulations doesn’t mean Thanksgiving this year can’t be fun.
