The most jaw-dropping news of the week concerns Miley Cyrus. Apparently, someone likes her enough to stalk her. I am just completely perplexed by this. Someone can actually enjoy listening to her voice that much? Her stalker, 53 year-old Mark McLeod was arrested at his home in Georgia…oh that explains it. I guess his cousin already got married.
Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are hanging out again. There goes Britney’s undies and Lindsay’s sobriety. It was nice knowing you.
Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt are back together. I guess they figured …
Formed in 2005, Gallows are an English hardcore punk band from Hertfordshire, England. Guitarist Laurent Barnard united with bassist Stuart Gili-Ross, and with the rest of their band mates released their debut album, Orchestra of Wolves. The album caught the attention of Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz, who released it in the US on independent label Epitaph Records with new tracks including a cover of Black Flag’s “Nervous Breakdown.” In an interview, Gurewitz named Orchestra of Wolves as one of his favorite albums of 2007, praising it as being the best …
Sing it Loud grew out of a friendship between cousins vocalist Pat Brown and guitarist Kieren Smith, who founded the group together and added members whom they met locally in the Minneapolis music scene. The band was offered a contract with Epitaph Records after playing only seven shows together. Their debut release for Epitaph was an EP produced by Josh Cain of Motion City Soundtrack, released in March 2008.
They released a full-length album, Come Around in September 2008, which hit #44 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.

Michael Jackson is still evidently the only thing anyone can talk about. There are tons of Michael Jackson articles, ranging from the secret behind his death to every single one of his family members. He’s dead! Just let him be. Jesus. He was popping pills like a crackwhore to stay exceptionally scary-looking, and one of those drugs killed him. There, I solved the mystery of his death. Just call me Nancy Drew Jr. I’m just glad Melissa Joan Rivers made the first Molestor Michael joke, it means the …
Only For The Night, Pickaxe, and The Sleeping Sea King
Romano’s
July 18, 2009
Let me tell you about these new guys in town called Only For The Night. One of the guitar players and I used to date. Three of the five guys played together in a band called Fight To The Last. One of them is married. One of them is a drummer. Together, they are fucking brilliant.
I was excited when I heard their demos on www.myspace.com/oftn, but when I saw them live is when I fell in love. A lot …
Lucha Vavoom is hosting a cat fight rumble this weekend at the El Rey. The show uniquely combines 60s spy flicks and WWF action. Knock-outs with knockers will be out hitting the ring to show off a little leg to go along with a mean left hook. Come out this Saturday to root for your favorite gal.
Watch as the ladies brawl in the squared circle. Sat. July 25th, show starts at 9pm. Tickets are $25.
Girl in a Coma
Trio B.C.
Blackheart Records
10/10
Hailing from San Antonio, Sisters Nina and Phanie Diaz, along with best friend Jenn Alva, make up Girl in a Coma. GIAC was formed when Nina Diaz, at age 12, borrowed her older sister’s guitar, impressing both Phanie and Jenn with strong vocals and incredibly deep and expressive songs. The three of them formed GIAC, named in homage to a Smiths’ song “Girlfriend in a Coma.” After playing for none other than Joan Jett herself, GIAC was signed on the spot by Blackheart Records.
Although compared …
Horror Squad
Friar Tuck’s
7/1/09
Last night I went to see my friends from the Horror Squad play in a castle shaped bar. It was hot, smoky, and punk rock. I even met a guy named Yoshi who had a Yoshi face tattooed on his neck! Cool kid.
Tonight was the night they were to debut their newest member, Vicente the cowbell player, but we’ll get to that later. The guys opened with “We’re All Gunna Die Anyway” and away we went. It’s hard to stay planted in one spot at a Horror Squad …
Last week, a terrible and tragic death occurred. He was a household name, a beloved member of society, even some people’s reason for life. That’s right, Billy Mays, pitchman for Orange Glo and OxiClean, sadly has passed away. I am expecting full media coverage and all the details in regards for his death. He changed my entire cleaning system with his obnoxious marketing of these products.
In lesser-known news, the King of Pop, Michael Jackson died at the age of 50. While reports are still inconclusive, it’s speculated that he died …
Miss Leota
May 29, 2009
Slidebar
Fullerton, CA
I didn’t know what to expect when I jumped in the car to see Miss Leota play at the Slidebar in Fullerton. I did know that one of the members was friends with Jimmy the Robot and Ricky Fitness from the Aquabats, but that was it. So, I bought myself some Barton Vodka and off we went. Turns out Miss Leota is a Death Metal/Hardcore band. Or, as they call themselves, “BusinessCore; the art of skipping the nonsense, gimmicks, clichés, and getting …
There are only two words to describe the past week in Hollywood: hot mess. The most shocking and astonishing event was the unfortunate break up of Paris Hilton and Doug Reinhardt. If those two can’t stay together, I just don’t believe in true love anymore. They seemed so perfect, amid all their 3 a.m. screaming fights and basically public fornication. Well, at least Doug will have something to remember Paris by-all the STDs he contracted from her. Now, those will last a lifetime. It didn’t take Paris long to …
Ooooooh! Racket received this juicy bit of hatemail. We loved it so much, we decided to reach out to our new fan and address her concerns.

[From Racket’s About Us:] “’When we review a CD, we don’t care how much heart and soul went into it, we tell you if you should bother shelling out $15 for the thing, or if you’re better off spending that money on Drumsticks and Dr. Pepper for a week. If it gets a decent review, it’s …
Brittan’s Amebix is one of the first bands to blend anarcho-punk and heavy metal music. Formed in 1978, and split in 1987, they recently reunited as of 2008.
Crusties both young and old packed the Trocadero venues to capacity for the legendary hardcore punk band Amebix, uniting to go on tour for the first time in twenty-two years. This was a dream come true for punks young and old who have wanted to see the glory that is Amebix live.
The heavily influential sound of Amebix laid the foundation for crust punk. …
The celebrity world found itself in a downward spiral this week, with Chris Brown, Candy Spelling, and Paris Hilton leading the way down. Surprise, surprise, the drama between Rihanna and Chris Brown just keeps on building. As the bruises lose color, the courts are getting fired up. If Chris Brown is tried as scheduled on June 22, little Ms. Barbados will testify against him. Funny, since pictures of Chris and Rihanna have just surfaced on the internet, with Chris saying that he isn’t a monster. Except in the pictures, I …
The Riot Before
Fists Buried in Pockets
Say/Ten Records
The Riot Before doesn’t let down, and they don’t astonish. Fists Buried in Pockets is another energetic fundamental folk-punk album, steadily sticking to that original folk-punk sound. The “folk” branch of punk rock is now too heavy to just exist as a branch – it’s got its own tree with roots in Plan-it-X Records, who released the first Against Me record. While others surely helped in creating “folk-punk,” Against Me swooned millions nearly 10 years ago, recruiting various punk fans to come together and realize …
Mouthbreather
Thank You for Your Patience
Kiss of Death Records
7/10
I saw these guys a year ago on Modern Life is War’s last tour in Mouthbreather’s hometown of Richmond, VA. I remember being unimpressed and put off at the time. When I gave them a listen later, I realized that Mouthbreather is not put-off worthy- I just had them pegged as an odd band to throw on that line-up. However, Mouthbreather is undeniably hardcore, and mid-tempo at that, sorting them into the same subdivision as Modern Life is War. It’s the other …
