The Road to San Diego Comic Con: Must See Non Con Events

WaterSkiBalletIt’s not news that San Diego Comic Con has a diverse array of panels, signings, and the like to stay entertained throughout the week. However,  what may not be common knowledge is the fact that there is also a plethora of events happening in the peripheral area of the convention center. Most of which is not only free but also open to non badge holders as well. So being the helpful individual that I am i’ve compiled a solid list of what I think are events you have to hit up if you’re in the area. I will say that not all of the events are all ages so keep that in mind if you’re not quite of age.

ACE-CourseAssassin’s Creed Experience 2014: UbiSoft is promoting their upcoming title, Assassin’s Creed Unity, in spectacular fashion. By giving people a chance to participate in a parkour obstacle course! The course looks to be exhilarating as well as challegnging for people of all fitness levels. I personally have never attempted any parkour related activities but why the heck not?! It’s there and it’s free. Realistically, I feel like my downfall will come via one of the pendulums swinging; obviously in the most comical fashion possible but why leave it to chance. Why not find out for sure?(Takes place the 24th to the 27th at the Martin Luther King Jr Promenade and is a free event)

brew festHeroes Brew Fest: The Brew Fest looks to be the perfect event for those who want to wet their whistle while participating in some cosplay shenanigans. Although those not dressed up are just as welcome to attend but wouldn’t you have more fun in costume? The brew fest boasts over 40 breweries represented; the likes of Golden Road, Ninkasi, Pizza Port, and Speakeasy just to name a few of those who will be pouring brews. Tickets to attend are $45 dollars which is about how much a one day badge for the con costs. So not a bad price at all.( Takes place on the 26th at Embarcadero Park from 3-7)

Joe-Manganiello-Nerdist-Laser-Tag1x1Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Laser Tag: Whether or not you’re a fan of Borderlands isn’t relevant, no one should ever turn down the chance to play a 50 person game of laser tag. Especially when it’s free! Nerdist, and several others, promise to bring an experience of epic proportions wherein you can get down in an all out laser tag war. How could you not participate?! This event is open to everyone but those with SDCC badges will have priority access so if you are without a badge I recommend showing up early. (Takes place at Petco Park 11-5 the 24th-27th)

blackheart burlesqueSuicide Girls Presents Blackheart Burleaque: The Blackheart Burlesque Tour is back for it’s next run in the states & to kick off the 2014 incarnation of the tour the show is making an appearance during SDCC. Every date of the previous run was sold out which means if you’re interested it’s best if you don’t wait too long on getting your ticket. If the footage from last year’s tour is any indication then this next installment looks to be rather titillating.  I was also able to speak with Missy Suicide a bit about the show for an interview and she promised I would leave with a smile on my face. From what I’ve seen, she’s definitely telling the truth. (Takes place July 26th at the House of Blues. Doors at 11:59. 18+. $33+)

walking dead escapeThe Walking Dead Escape: The obstacle course inspired by the hit comic book series and television show makes it’s return to petco park to give fans a chance to outrun some walkers or even become a walker as well.  The course has been a staple event at SDCC for the last few years and for a fan of The Walking Dead it’s a MUST. I have never done the course myself but perhaps this is finally the year I get off my ass and make a mad dash past some walkers. Or maybe I will end up as walker bait. I’ve been hitting the gym regularly this year so who knows. I think I can hack it! (July 25th &26th. 6PM. 14+. $75+)

SVGLPubQuest Presents…Super Video Game Land: An event in which craft beer, video games, and art collide in quite possibly the best way possible. Did I mention Southern Fried Vegan will be on hand to deliver deliciousness? The event boasts over 50 unique pieces of art inspired by classic video games on display as well as several consoles on hand to get some gaming on. If that wasn’t enough to get you interested how about the fact it all takes place at Mission Brewery, one of the finest places in San Diego to grab a beer.  (July 24th. Mission Brewery. 6PM. 21+. Free.)
