The 2018 Ohana Fest is Almost Here

Last year, I pontificated about how great the Ohana Fest, Eddie Vedder’s chill-as-hell music festival, was. The lineup was amazing, the location was phenomenal, the food was fantastic, and even the vendors were cool. This year looks to blow the 2017 festival out of the water.

Ohana, led by Eddie Vedder’s longstanding love of nature and support of those who fight for it, will also donate a portion of proceeds to the San Onofre Parks Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with California State Parks to develop, preserve, and enhance the recreation and experience of California’s unique and beautiful coastal parks.

Plus, there’s going to be some stellar acts. While the headliners are amazing, it’s some of the mid-day acts that I think most of you should check out. Here’s a few great acts you should definitely show up early for:

Kevin Devine:
Sure, you have to probably ditch work, school, a funeral, whatever. Do it so you can catch Kevin Devine. Matching the mellow mood that washes over me when I am beachside in Southern California, Devine’s dreamy voice can wash over you, too.

Amos Lee:
I had a professor in college that was all about Amos Lee, and as my professor helped sign Van Morrison to a music contract, I had an inkling he knew solid musicians. 12 years later, I am still a huge fan of Amos Lee. His music is as folksy as Dylan’s ever was, but also somehow completely different. Here, take a listen.

Fantastic Negrito:
Now comes the barnburner of the performers of Ohana, and the one I’m most excited for. Fantastic Negrito doesn’t just blur the lines between blues, roots, and rock music, he shreds them to hell.

With additional acts like John Doe (of X), Johnny Marr (of The Smiths, Modest Mouse, and more), Dave Hause (of The Loved Ones, Paint It Black), it’s easy to see that Ohana has the formula down. Great musicians. Great location. Great vibes. Great social responsibility. Add ’em all together and you have a great experience.
