There is this music festival called Rock on the Range that takes place at Crew Stadium right here in Columbus, Ohio every year. Go to http://www.rockontherange.com/ to check it out for yourself. The first year the festival was thrown a good friend of mine and I used to joke about different ways we could wreak terror at the festival, systematically destroying everything that is wrong with Ohio (and the rest of Middle America) in one fell swoop.
You see, the festival features all of the worst bands in rock’n’roll. Everything that is wrong with modern rock on one stage over two days every May, it’s an exciting concept. 50,000 poor people, all of whom are inept enough to vote Republican because they agree with the GOP on social issues like hating non-whites* and non-Christians, a man’s innate right to beat his woman, the right of the public to tell a woman what she can or can’t do with her body, etc., gather together to listen to groups like Three Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd, Chevelle, and others of that ilk. Well, Pop Evil** fits in perfectly on that bill. This shit sucks.

** No, it is not lost on me that Pop Evil actually has a black band member, and I don’t intend to suggest that anyone who attends RotR is racist, only that 85% of attendees are.

Pop Evil is hands down one of the worst bands to come along in quite some time. The lead singer has no vocal talent to speak of and the overall musical talent of the band is severely lacking to say the least.
Watching them in concert was one of the most horrifying things I’ve ever seen, then they tried to pull out some kind of gangsta rap sh*t with a fat mexican rapper.. No joke.. It was horrible.
I saw their horrible performance at the felt mansion. I couldnt stand it and left after the first 2 songs. The lead singer was dissing the opening act for being late or sumthing. The opening act was alot better than Cock Evil. Ritchie nix i think it was. Checkem out!
thank you for this article. i’m from michigan, and am utterely embarrassed of this regurgitated “rock”. each song fits the standard mainstream template, poorly.
what kept me fucking befuddled for years, was: how did these dudes “make it”? there has to be some connection with the Bush administration and Pop Evil. from the lyrics, to the high school talent show distortion, it is a testament to the mass ignorance that has covered art, with such bull shit.
sigh.
These are the kind of guys that IF they even write their own songs, the sit down and say, “this could totally be played on the radio”. In other words they write for radio, specifically, and they think there’s nothing wrong with it. They think people that can’t stomach their recycled pop shit are “haters”. Sadly, marketers will have this in 70% of white male adolescent bedrooms and another generation is destroyed. :(
The singer isn’t black, his father is from India…..get your facts straight!
And they are good dudes with zmore talent and drive than most of the shit out there today…..
