@Alkaline_Trio… A Day Of Tweets, Drinks and cupcakes…

OK, so here’s the deal… I headed to Los Angeles to scope the Alkaline Trio, Cursive and The Dear & Departed. The day started early and quickly became a blur. Between getting lost in Hollyweird (I’m very open about being a directional rihtard), spending some serious cash at Johnny Cupcakes, and drinking my weight in Jameson and Heineken, I soon realized doing a review may be quite hard. So, I decided to tweet my ass off in hopes of remembering the days activities… this is what @Jeff_Leppard had to say…

Just dropped some duckets at @JohnnyCupcakes… about to go get my drank on with Sarah @jeniscissorhand and @JosefADAM” – Getting to Johnny Cupcakes was an adventure in itself. Parking in Hollywood isn’t that great, and my navigational skills are worse. After driving around for about twenty minutes, I finally parked and hopped on my longboard to make my way to the store… Needless to say I made a new friend in the form of a tree…

Now though this is a show review, I do want to drop a shout-out to Johnny Cupcakes. The store was way rad, and resembled a bakery. If you want to read up on him, then check out www.johnnycupcakes.com. I spent some cash on some rad threads and decided it was time to get my day (aka drinking) started.

At house of blues drinking my $100,000 dollar Jameson… my wallet hates me today…” – The price was exaggerated a bit, but damn… getting a buzz was not cheap. A couple double Jameson’s on the rocks and I was feeling quite nice. I headed to the nearest Pink Dot to help continue my festivities before the show.

Ummmm The Dear and Departed… all I can say is stick to LA Ink bro… not feelin’ it…” – They were the opening band. It’s Dan from LA Ink, so it was no secret as to why they landed gigs with ALK3 and Cursive. They just weren’t good. The crowd look unimpressed and bored the entire time… Sorry guys.

Tonights slogan: Tattooed Sluts Drive Me Nuts” – Sooooo Many hot girls with tattoos. I was in heaven. Of course I’m a chickenshit and didn’t talk to any of them, but who cares…

Time for Cursive…

Art Is Hard… flawless… I need more booze!”

“Cursive is killin’ it… Domestica status. Absolutely flawless live… PS… I <3 beer/jameson/whatever”

“Oh… and Tim Kasher is my hero….” – I was pretty done-for at this point, but I do remember Cursive having me in sheer awe. They will always be one of my all-time favorite bands and their live show has never disappointed me. They played a great mix of old and new and projected an energy and passion that was a total privilege to witness.

“Heineken for the saveeeee… I hope I catch a taxi hommee “ – No explanation needed.

Alkaline Trio takes FOREVER to come on

“Open with This Addiction… surprise, surprise.”

“I think @Alkaline_Trio is drunker than me… Dan Adriano lost some LBS! Oldschool jams…” – My phone was dead after these last two tweets. I vaguely remember the set which consisted of old and new songs. They sounded great and were pretty energetic, but unfortunately they had to follow Cursive (who was just on point), so I wasn’t feeling it too much. You could tell they had put down some beverages before their set, but it didn’t stop them from playing a pretty decent sized set. They even kicked out some classics like “Fuck You, Aurora”, “Stupid Kid” and “Crawl”, but left out important songs like “Private Eye”, “Maybe I’ll Catch Fire” and “My Friend Peter.” Though they didn’t play exactly all the songs I wanted to hear, thought they put on a good show and were pretty energetic. I certainly didn’t mind buying my ticket for this show and felt I got my money’s worth… The alcohol on the other hand… my bar tab was quite pricey, but I had fun so fuck off.
