Our Pre-San Diego Comic-Con coverage ends today as the con gets underway with preview night taking place later this evening. However, we still have 1 more article left for you before all the chaos ensues. We’ve covered panels, peripheral events, con tips but now we cover what is arguably the most important topic, concerts. Ok, so maybe it isn’t the most important topic but it is definitely my favorite. There are a good number of them going on this week so I have chosen what I feel are the best of the bunch. So if you’re looking for some live music to enjoy then look no further, I’ve done the groundwork for you!
The Aquabats at the House of Blues: The premiere super hero rock group of the West Coast makes their triumphant return to the House of Blues during Comic-Con weekend for their 4th consecutive year. Their Comic-Con show is easily one of their best all year and coupled with the fact that it’s the band’s 20th anniversary you can expect the bar to be raised rather high that evening. If that weren’t enough, opening the show is Koo Koo Kanga Roo, one of the very few bands that gives The Aquabats a run for their money. Be there. (The show takes place Thursday July 24th. Doors at 7. $25. All Ages)
The 2014 Nerd-a-Thon: The 2014 Nerd-a-Thon, taking place at The Merrow, promises to be a show for all the hardcore nerdcore hip-hop heads out there as it’s headlined by both MC Lars and Mc Frontalot, two of the best in the game. On top of some excellent music the event also promises burlesque performances courtesy of Devil’s Playground, the premiere nerdy burlesque troupe who will be performing as the Emperor’s Guard for the evening. Nerdcore hip hop and Star Wars themed burlesque? SOLD! ( The show takes place Friday July 25th. Doors at 8. $25. 21+)
Say Anything: Say Anything put out a new record earlier this year and it’s probably their best to date. The band is on tour to promote said record with The Front Bottoms, The So So Glos, and You Blew It; some of the best up and coming bands in the scene. The tour hits the House of Blues, seems like the HOB is the place to be this weekend, this Saturday and the show is set to be amazing from beginning to end. Especially after looking at set lists posted online, Say Anything seems to be playing a healthy mix from their extensive back catalog so you’ll hear all the hits. Even “the cellphone song”. (The Show takes place Saturday July 26th. Doors at 5:30. $23. All ages)
