Oh No, Not Stereo – 003 – CD Review

4/10

During some poppy points, this album is undeniably catchy. That being said, the majority of this is intolerable. Oh No Not Stereo’s sound is hard to place, but it’s obvious they have a wide range of annoying influences. They will most likely end up on alternative radio where they’ll fit in with Nickleback and Finger Eleven. While there are traces of frat-boy radio rock, there’s just as much OK-Go-esque teeny power-pop.

003 seems to be pioneering a new genre that is the worst of both worlds. Oh, and throw in some random pop-rock piano riffs along the way. Did these guys make it up as they went along? If the power-pop/ frat rock genre sound intriguing, listen at your own risk.

The lyrics tend to be ridiculous and cheesy. From what I can make out there are a couple stories about the lyricist’s druggie brother, contemplation about wasting too much money on the weekend, and the obligatory ‘shoulda-been’ relationship story. All-in-all, a pretty frustrating album. Even more so considering it will probably make it onto your local airwaves.
