Saosin – Interview

saosin1.jpgI arrived at the HOB and after about an hour of waiting around, I finally made it to the Saosin tour bus for a quick interview and sat down with Beau Burchell and Chris Sorenson, where I learned a little about the duo’s side project B2C, a mock rap group with spoof-parody type songs based on other hip-hop artists. Do I sense a possible future Saosin/B2C tour? Guess not…

RacketKristen: So what does SAOSIN even mean?
Chris: Well, SAOSIN means be careful what you’re doing especially in life because you never know when it’s going to end. We don’t take for granted what were doing. [Note: I googled the meaning of saosin and it means “small heart”]

RK: If you could be alive during any musical era what would it be?
Beau: The 80’s, no I take that back, the early 90’s. There was some weird bands that were really big, bands like Sound Garden and Pearl Jam.
Chris: Part of me says the future because the future is what’s to come, but then part of me says somewhere in the past…
Beau: Because then we would be rich.
Chris: Just for the sake that everything wouldn’t have been done already.
Beau: I would want to be in the early 2000s so I could be in boy bands.
RK: boy bands?
Beau: I like Backstreet Boys, all those bands are huge and they’re rich.

RK: Ok, what is something you enjoy doing musically that you haven’t done In any of your albums?
Chris: Personally, I love strings. We haven’t done any REAL strings in our albums. We’ve had some strings on a quick DVD we did, but other than that no strings.
Beau: Piano, I’d like to be a pianist. [laughs]

RK: What’s one band you’d like to bring back?
Beau: Elliot, a small band from Louisville. Bet you never heard of them?

RK: That I haven’t. So, tell me a little about B2C.
Beau: We just wanted to have some fun and make some joke rap songs.
RK: Like Hollywood undead?
Beau: Yeah, except B2C was a little cooler. I know a few of the guys from Hollywood Undead, they’re all LA scene kids, it’s great, but…
RK: Have you ever actually seen their faces?
Beau: Yeah, is it like taboo? Well yeah ours was a joke too, but they actually got signed for it so I don’t know what’s worse.
RK: Any chance of a B2C tour?
Beau: No. We only ever performed once and it was pretty bizarre, the fans definitely didn’t expect it. It was pretty terrible.

RK: Has there been any bands you disliked touring with?
Beau: Yes.
Chris: The perception of bands, especially in this genre, isn’t what people think. We don’t have ass passes, kegs of beer, or stripper poles.
Beau: It’s the exact opposite of what people think it is, most of the guys are in bed by 12. We are usually the first band to check out the venue, and then we find a place to work out. We have a lot of down time.
RK: At least in Vegas you have a lot to do, right?
Beau: I’m not a huge Vegas fan, I never have been. It’s kind of scummy. I don’t like gambling or strip clubs, the only thing good about Vegas is the food.
[Then we were interrupted for like 10 whole minutes while I sat their staring at the ceiling]
Beau: I like food, I like Cirque Du Soleil.
