The Racket Report: Suicide Girls Blackheart Burlesque

SG Promo !The Suicide Girls invaded the House of Blues: San Diego last weekend to bring the latest incarnation of Blackheart Burlesque show and I have to say I was rather impressed, my own personal expectations for the event being greatly exceeded. It was quite the spectacle to see an online publication known for it’s nudity craft a show that revealed less than what is found on their website and have it be just as sexy if not more so. The masses in attendance were shouting their asses off the entire time and pictures were being snapped every couple of seconds  I mean at the end of the day we all know what nipples look like so it’s not as if they need exposed for the show to have a huge impact. Getting into the show that night was possibly the only problem I had the entire evening. For some reason the line to get in took much longer than expected and moved extremely slow. So slow I missed the first 3 acts which is unfortunate given that a few kind gentlemen told me that one of those acts was planet of the apes themed. Now I’m left to only imagine what these scantily clad women parading as gorillas looked like.

I don’t hold this against the production but more so against the venue. Guess it means I’ll need to venture out and witness the show again to catch it. When I did show up there was a some kind of bit involving audience participation going on. One lucky man was brought on stage to play a game with our host for the evening. He had to attempt to read a brief story while being teased and then answer questions once the tease was done. His eyes never really left the paper but I don’t think he read much since he couldn’t answer questions about the story. But for being a good sport they rewarded him with a year long subscription to the website, lucky man.

After that the show picked up the pace and went into a Game of Thrones themed number which was rather fun. After that we saw a several performances all across the board in terms of their inspiration. At one point there was an Adventure Time themed set and I’m still not sure how to feel about it. As the show came to a close our hostess came out one more time before going into a Star Wars routine.
Once things were all said and done I shuffled out of the venue thinking about how much I enjoyed everything. The choreography was great, music selection superb, and the timing for everything was perfect. I would definitely see this show in a heartbeat, perhaps next time the line will move a little faster.
