The Modern Society
The Beat Goes On
Original Signal Recordings
8/10

This band hailing from Atlanta, Georgia was formed in 2005. The Beat Goes On is their sophomore release, following 2006’s Friends & Enemies. The songs are straightforward rock’n’roll with a tip of the hat to the classic era of rock – think the Stones or the Flamin’ Groovies. Signs of the group’s southern heritage are evident. The vocals are strong and give the album a bit more of an edge than it might otherwise possess. It’s a solid effort throughout. My favorite song of the bunch was the closer “Mona Lisa,” thanks to some wailing guitars and a group chorus exclaiming “Light it up, light it up!” Those always get me. I’ll do the song’s straightforward approach justice by doing the review in the same vein, and leave it at that.
