On July 10th, Wet Leg played at Ally Pally Park (to the locals – Alexandra Palace Park for the Americans) with openers English Teacher and Los Bitchos. Coming from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I found myself in London, UK at the same time as Wet Leg and requested a photo pass. Wet Leg is a band I found deep in the throes of my divorce and the post-divorce shit that comes with it. They’re a band I found when I needed something bold, slightly vulgar, but empowering and adorable all at the same time.
What I found on this adventure to see and shoot this audacious band was a long train ride to a cute little area on the outskirts of London, a long walk to an old ice rink (or still an ice rink?) with food trucks lining the sidewalks of the building and inside the hall, and a large hill down to the stage with a beautiful view of what I assume to be the city. The show attracted people of all backgrounds – young and old, hipster to business casual to normies with their inner weird child.
Los Bitchos and English Teacher rocked the outdoor venue as the sunset and golden hour hit the hillside, drawing the crowd in as much as the headliner. When Wet Leg stepped out, frontman Rhian Teasdale commented on the show being their biggest crowd yet for one of their headlining gigs. Their incredible smoke and bright flashing lights made for a bang of a performance, along with the characters of the band being their full selves on stage and sounding just as fantastic as the recordings. It was truly a beautiful experience to get this opportunity. If you want to chat about it more, hit me up, otherwise enjoy the gallery of these fantastic musicians. 10 out of 10. 5 stars. Highly recommend.
