Frankly, I’m out of practice when it comes to writing persuasive essays. That being said, here’s my thesis statement: Furnace Woods is one of the best bands Sacramento has to offer.
There’s nothing I respect more than a band that gives it their all to a near empty room, which happens regularly as a local opener — we don’t need to pretend it doesn’t. There’s a “doing it for the love of the game” mentality that I admire so deeply and I have to believe resonates with others.
Their limited discography thus far is thoughtful, cathartic and clever in how it illustrates the finicky nature of mental health, interpersonal relationships and the patterns we find ourselves entrenched in.
I think there’s supposed to be a third point but this isn’t a real essay and I’m not being graded (please don’t tell me if I’m being graded), so, in conclusion, check out Furnace Woods. They put out one of my favorite EPs of last year and are gearing up to release another. Going off the first couple singles and the new track they played at their July 11 gig at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, it’s shaping up to be another top 10 for this year.
