The Knife

Tomorrow In a Year
9/10
First and foremost, let me dedicate these next few lines to warning you that this album is unlike any other Knife album, and therefore is most definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. Initially upon hearing the concept behind the music, even I, an avid Knife devotee, was a tad bit skeptical as to how such a project would result. Obviously, the first words on my lips were: PRETENTIOUS, ELITIST, and FARFETCHED. Needless to say, my suspicions were confirmed, but I was absolutely blown away with the end result. True to Knife fashion, the album is sonically breathtaking in every conceivable way. The soundscapes created by siblings Karen and Olaf are absolutely mesmerizing; with irregular bass rhythms pulsating throughout the lush, synthesized environments created by the duo. However, as I stated previously, this album is most definitely not for everyone, and that is of course because this is a bonafide opera, with the vocal aerobatics that one would expect to accompany a piece such as this. Ultimately, if you have the patience, this magnificent piece of work is most definitely worth a listen.
