Revolting Cocks
Sexo Olympico

7/10
Well, never judge a book by its cover or a band by its name – this is a lot better than I initially expected just from the artist and album names. Of course I’m not an industrial/goth connoisseur – so this was an interesting breath of fresh air. While it makes a strong industrial/ rave impression during the second half of the album, the sound frequents an 80’s new wave, goth, and metal vibe. With Sexo Olympico, RevCo decided its time for a serious, sexy take on goth/industrial music. The sound is poppy and danceable yet dark. The voice is deep and soothing, reminiscent of Morrissey or Ian Curtis, until the random screaming vocals take over during the second half. Think a more melodic Orgy. They might be striving for something with a scary vibe, but all of the danceable elements have not assisted in reaching that goal. However, the lyrics, while humorous at times, mention nothing but sex, so porn shop owners – get on this. It’d most likely be too inappropriate for Hot Topic, where otherwise I’d also anticipate it.
