Thoroughbreds

Ed’s Review:

Watched Thoroughbreds last night. Been trying to think of a review. “Mostly Harmless.” It’s an odd movie. One character feels no emotion and another does a great job of hiding her emotions. The character who hides her emotions hates her step-dad. Things happen. The movie ends. It’s shot in a cool way, the performances were really good. It’s like a cheesy teen movie that someone said “Hey, what if we tried to make this not suck? What would happen?” This movie. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. I guess I’d recommend it….but if you wait until it’s on Netflix that’s fine too. 7/10

Bob’s Review:

Thoroughbreds is an enjoyable film that isn’t for everyone. It’s an odd one to say the least. Even had a couple get up and leave in the middle of it. A beautifully shoot film that has some really good long takes that probably have more hidden meaning then I could currently tell you. The story sounds simple enough with some really good interactions between the two main leads (Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy) along with the last appearance of Anton Yelchin. While I liked it I wouldn’t say I would recommend this for everyone. Do you like explosions and car chases in your films, if so, this isn’t the film for you. I somehow give it a 9/10 which might be adulation with the passing of time.
