Lucha VaVOOM Halloween 2017

If you haven’t heard of Lucha VaVOOM, Southern California’s premiere purveyors of “sexo y violencia,” you’re missing out. Lucha Vavoom has spent 15 years blending Mexican lucha libre, burlesque dancing, and ample amounts of furious spectacle. This year is no exception.

With Los Crazy Chickens, Lil Cholo, evil doctors Medico Assesino & Dr. Madad, Joey Ryan (well known for his penile agility), and Cannibals, the Luchador lineup, even if you don’t know anything about it, just SOUNDS insane. Then there’s the burlesque dancers, including hometown starlet Kitten De Ville (Riverside show), aerial athlete Veronica Yune, and the exceptionally amazing Lux LaCroix will dazzle you with their skillful undressings. Add in low-riders, musical guest Peaches (LA shows only), comedy weirdos, I mean, greats Blaine Capatch (Midnight, MadTV) and Jeff Davis (Harmontown, Whose Line Is It, Anyway), and more creepy, Halloween-y goodness, and you have a can’t-miss evening of debauchery.

Having presented high-octane insanity for 15+ years, Lucha VaVOOM is no stranger to extravagant levels of sex & violence, and they promise continued innovation. Per founder Rita D’Albert, “we keep pushing our boundaries as well as pushing ourselves out into the world“, but when asked about their proverbial five-year-plan, she was a bit more reserved: “…we’ll have to keep schtum on all of our plans because we use the element of surprise as part of our arsenal of entertainment.

I know, I know, sex & violence have some shitty connotations in the world today, with producers, pundits, and presidents alike all using their power for sexual evil. But alas, D’Albert has taken the lead, ensuring that this is about empowerment, not subjection. “Lucha VaVOOM has always been female run, and has always been a home for weirdos that no one ever wants to leave (performers, crew OR audience),” she says, “ Lucha VaVOOM is about real freedom, real togetherness, and REAL FUN. When we say sexo y violencia, we’re talking about Warner Bros.-cartoon-level cartoon violence. The sexo is extremely talented and accomplished performers either disrobing or not.  Seriously lighten up, Puritans!  We’re having fun over here – come join us!  ONE OF US ONE OF US GOOBLE GOBBLE GOOBLE GOBBLE ONE OF US!”

And, if you are looking to join in on the animated violence as an upcoming luchador, heed her advice, “First of all, STAY HYDRATED. Second, train all the time. Third, you must be a fearless warrior who laughs at pain! Most importantly, if you possess all of these qualities, plus charisma, give us a call!”
